OVER a hundred Harlow residents came together on Friday morning to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
The event was opened by councillor Jean Clark, who is chair of the World War One committee. Cllr Clark was followed by civic dignitaries and faith leaders who made contributions to the service.
The culmination of the service was the blowing of a whistle at 7.28am. One hundred years to the minute when the men went over the top.
