MORE street lights are working across Essex, according to the latest quarterly figures in June.

The percentage of faulty streetlights across the county have fallen from 2.27 per cent in March to just 1.43 per cent in June. This is well below the Council’s target to keep faulty lights below two in every 100.

Councillor Eddie Johnson, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “This is good news for safety on our roads. It is an encouraging position to be in as we begin to roll out our programme to install LED lamps in all-night street lights in August.

“We like to say a huge thanks to residents who have made us aware of faulty streetlights through our online reporting tool. We can also tell immediately when a street light stops working through the radio control device fitted to each light. Both these methods have helped highlight and fix hundreds of lights across the county.”

Essex County Council maintains over 127,000 streetlights. As at the end of June 2016, faulty streetlight percentages per district were:
