ACADEMY Transformation Trust’s Kingsmoor Academy is celebrating after receiving a rating of ‘Good’ in all categories from Ofsted following an inspection in June.

‘Good’ is the second highest mark possible from Ofsted.

Inspectors particularly praised the efforts of Principal Lesley Brennan, stating that she ‘has brought about rapid improvements in a short period of time. Her exceptional leadership, vision and commitment to providing high-quality education for pupils has improved the quality of teaching and raised standards of learning.’

During the most recent Ofsted inspection the academy’s leaders, managers and governors were applauded for their contributions to the academy’s rapid improvement in the past year.
Teaching is now ‘consistently good’ according to inspectors. Phonics teaching for example is described as ‘systematic and involves teachers and teaching assistants working together to support pupils in gaining good, well-established skills of reading and writing.’

Pupils were also applauded for their good behaviour, their hard work and their willingness to take on challenges. They noted that pupils ‘enthuse about certain subjects, including mathematics and science, and are highly appreciative of the work of the sports coaches and visiting volunteers that run clubs and activities.’

Governors were praised for their ‘wide range of useful skills, experience and knowledge which are well used to support improvements.’

The report commended the academy’s sponsor ATT, stating that ‘School leaders have worked effectively with representatives of the Academy Transformation Trust to bring about improvements. These representatives know the school well and provide valuable support.’

Joyce Hodgetts, Managing Director of Academy Transformation Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted with this inspection result.

“The improvements that Lesley and her team have made in such a short time have been truly amazing and it is down to the hard work of Lesley and her staff.

“When Kingsmoor joined us in 2012 it was a struggling school and in need of much improvement.

“The journey the academy has been on over the past year has been inspirational and we are confident that Lesley can make the necessary improvements to take the academy to ‘Outstanding’.

Principal, Lesley Brennan, commented: “I am incredibly pleased with this result.

“This would not have been possible without the dedication and determination of our staff and the challenge and support from our governors and ATT.

“Thank you so much to the staff, pupils and their families for their hard work and their passion to be the best that they can be.

“We know that we still have more to do but I am confident that by working together we can continue to become even better.”
