Get your colour vibe for St Clares Hospice

MORE than thirty creative fundraisers have signed up to get colourful for their local Hospice this summer. On 20th August hundreds of runners will be heading down to Nuclear Races near Ongar to take part in the Colour Vibe 5k – including some keen St Clare supporters.
The 5k race is a charity run with a difference – participants are showered along the course with brightly coloured powdered paint – making it the most colourful way to support St Clare.
Among the participants is 24 year old Kirsten Dalby, a student Physiotherapist from Bishop’s Stortford, who completed a work placement at St Clare in July. Kirsten was inspired by her time at St Clare to sign up for the Colour Vibe to raise vital funds for the charity.
Kirsten said: “I really didn’t know what to expect when I came to St Clare for the first time – I was a little apprehensive that it would be a sad place. But St Clare is the complete opposite – it is just so uplifting. My five weeks at the hospice have taught me so much – and have made we want to do something to support the charity in my own way. I saw the Colour Vibe being advertised and I thought it sounded like a really fun event.”
During her placement with St Clare Hospice Kirsten worked as part of the Day Therapy team.
Kirsten said: “The most rewarding part was to work with a group of people on the Breathlessness course. It was really special to be able to help people to learn techniques to help them continue to enjoy their life, to exercise and to be independent. Empowering people to carry on doing the things they love, like walking outside or playing with their grandchildren, is just such a privilege.”
Kirsten will be qualifying as a Physiotherapist in September 2016 and will be starting her career at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.
Jade Clarke, St Clare’s Challenges and Events Fundraiser, has been encouraging St Clare supporters to sign up to the Colour Vibe: “Taking part in the colour run really is the best way to put ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ for St Clare! It is a 5k run with a difference. You are the canvas and will be blasted with colour – so by the end of the race you will have become a vivid, rainbow-coloured masterpiece!”
“The event is at Nuclear Races, near Ongar, and registration is open until Friday 19th August. Entry costs £15 for children (ages 1-12 years), £20 for adults and £60 for a family (2 adults, 2 children). We also ask every participant to aim to raise a minimum of £48 in sponsorship.”
