LIVEWIRE is a free youth theatre project that has been running in Harlow at various locations for 15 years. The Square has hosted fundraising events for the charity in the past and when founder Sam Ashford expressed a desire to expand the music element of Livewire, coming to The Square seemed like a no brainer. The music project will run at The Square on Tuesday evenings 7pm – 9pm and is open to young people in Year 9 or above, whilst drama on these evenings is open to Year 11s and above.

It will be different to other youth music programmes in that it will focus on music composition from briefs provided by the drama students. The end result for this term will be a full production of drama & music in December. It is free to attend the Tuesday evenings.

The Square has been committed to supporting local talent since its inception, and to have a youth project that concentrates on composition, as opposed to the next generation covers bands, ticks all the right boxes for us. They can follow in the footsteps of Adele’s co-writer and producer Paul Epworth, who start his career at The Square’

Creative Director Sam Ashford has said -‘We’ve been going strong for 15 years now with a large membership of young people looking to be creative and to do something positive together for their community. The opportunity has arisen to put on a weekly workshop at the Square which, due to our past performances there, feels like a natural step. We specialise in issue based community theatre that is exciting, engaging and never patronising in anyway. The Square gives us a new platform and a chance for our musicians and actors to work together throughout the year and not just in the holidays. We are unbelievably excited to link up with such a prestigious place that is the cornerstone of our town.’
