Football: Depleted Harlow overpowered by Sudbury

Ryman Premier

Harlow Town 1 v 3 AFC Sudbury

AN INJURY ravaged Harlow Town could not compete with a sprightly Sudbury as they went down 3-1 at the Harlow Arena.

Harlow had several players out to due to injury and suspension, so many at the Harlow Arena were feeling a little pessimistic.

But early on Harlow played to their main strength and that is confidence on the ball.

The Suffolk side had the first real chance when Luke Callander blasted the ball over the bar from close range.

Despite the strong wind both teams were intent on playing attractive football.

Sudbury opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Jack Newman scuttled the ball home from close range after a messy exchange in the area.

Harlow Town plugged away in the first half and newcomer Bamba Ngamb had a number of chances but he could not get past the very impressive keeper, Marcus Garnham, who produced a couple of great blocks.

The second half got off to a terrible start with a soaring Luke Callander scoring with a free header

A depleted Harlow just could not get going and it was no surprise when Aaron Greene made it 3-0. It was, to be fair, a beautifully taken goal as he brought the ball down before lobbing David Hughes.

It seemed only fair that if anyone was going to score for Harlow then it was Bamba Ngamb who slotted the ball home from close range after good work by Layne Eadie.

There were ugly scenes just before the final whistle when Bamba Ngamb and Lawrence Yiga were sent off for violent conduct. Sudbury’s Ryan Henshaw also saw red.

It was clear from our interview afterwards that manager Danny Chapman was not a happy boss and it seemed more to do with the player’s attitude.

They face a hard task on Tuesday night when they face in-form Needham Market at the Harlow Arena at 7.45pm.
