LOOKING for a simple way to save an average of over £900 a year – why not try car sharing?

Essex County Council is encouraging residents to consider car sharing as part of national Liftshare Week (3 – 9 October).

It comes at a time that car sharing has hit the headlines following the success of James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ where the actor turned chat show host gives famous singers a lift in his car while they duet to their favourite tunes.

Car sharing in Essex could not be simpler – just head to the dedicated car share website www.essexcarshare.com then enter your start and end locations to match with a willing driver. The karaoke is optional.

If you message a fellow car-sharer during Liftshare week you could win £250 as part of the national competition.

Additionally, when you sign up to Essex Car Share next week you will also get a free thermos mug, air freshener and ice scraper.

Cllr Eddie Johnson, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “Car sharing is an easy way of saving huge amounts of money every month while also helping the planet.

“Sharing lifts reduces your carbon footprint while the monetary savings can help pay for a surprise holiday or some home improvements.

“Signing up on our website could not be simpler and will only take a matter of minutes. I would urge residents to get online to start saving.”

Essex Car Share currently has more than 1,800 members who have a journey available to share.

Car sharing significantly reduces CO2 emissions which contributes towards a healthier and happier community and helps to reduce congestion on our roads.
