STEWARDS Academy celebrated the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in style when two year 7 classes took to the field behind Stewards to re-enact that fateful day.
Pupils had huge fun preparing their costumes and making all their battle equipment. The two battles were tense and hard fought, but the outcome saw brave King Harold cut down in his prime.
Deputy Headteacher Marie Erwood, who teaches history to the pupils, said ‘This is a brilliant opportunity to bring history to life and mark a key date in English history. Pupils who learn actively in this way will learn far more effectively and the memory will stay with them for many years to come.’
