ESSEX Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in a flat in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The fire started in the oven and was due to the homeowner falling asleep while cooking.

Crews extinguished the fire by 02:41

Station officer Richie Green said:

“Thankfully nobody was hurt in this incident, however, we intend to follow it up with a home safety visit and continue to enforce the message that cooking should never be left unattended.”
