Election 2017: Who will Labour be putting up against Robert Halfon?

News / Tue 18th Apr 2017 at 07:21pm

WE are pretty confident that Robert Halfon will be going forward to defend his 8,000 majority on June 8th.

But who will be standing against Mr Halfon?

This morning (Tuesday) we were being told by about activists that it was Chris Vince who would probably be a candidate.

At that time, they thought, Mr Vince would be getting a two to three year run.

Chris Vince is a Chelmsford based politician who ran for Essex Police and Crime Commissioner. Keen, able and determined, Harlow would be a suitable place for Chris to cut his teeth.

Bu now we have also heard that veteran Harlow councillor, Mike Danvers is also set to throw his hat into the ring.

Mr Danvers would fit the description of Corbynista down to the ground and who knows where his brand of left wing politics would be received.

He may be just going through the motions for the purposes of the having a section contest.

Some people have asked if Harlow Council leader, cllr Jon Clempner would stand however, we have always got the impression that he is happy with his work-life balance just now.

But who knows? Cllr Clempner has been widely praised for his navigation of Harlow Council through choppy waters as well as deftly handling issued such as street lighting, illegal encampments and cuts to senior officers in Harlow. Cllr Clempner has nothing to lose.

There may well be others who are about to throw their hat into the ring.
