Head of School Appointed for Harlow’s New School

IN September 2016, the Department of Education had approved Burnt Mill Co-operative Trust’s application to open a new school with a sixth form in Harlow.

Head of School has been appointed to work towards opening the school for an intake of 240 Year 7 students and 100 year 12 students in September 2019.

Dee Conlon, Deputy Head Teacher at Burnt Mill Academy, will take up her role full time as Head of School in January 2019. From April 2017, Mrs Conlon will dedicate one day a week to SFG whilst continuing to teach at Burnt Mill Academy.

Mrs Conlon joined the BMAT family in September 2011, previously having worked in North and East London schools. She has been in education for 15 years and is looking forward to leading a school.

“I am thrilled to be appointed as the Head of School. It is a big challenge to design a brand new school. From the building itself to the curriculum we are going to offer, every detail needs to be considered carefully to ensure young people attending SFG receive a world class education. We have an excellent team of people working on this project who all share the same vision. I am lucky to be surrounded with such individuals who care about young people as much as I do.”

Ms Mills, CEO of BMAT, has congratulated Mrs Conlon on her appointment and said she has every confidence SFG is going to be a very successful school and transform the lives of young people in Harlow.

“Mrs Conlon is an exceptional leader and a role model to young women. She is driven and committed to making a difference. We share the same core values which will run through the corridors of Sir Frederick Gibberd College as they do in all of our trust schools.”

BMAT team is busy working to ensure SFG opens its doors in September 2019 to the first cohort of Year 7s and 12s. Admission policies are due to be published in the summer term and information evenings will be held throughout the year so members of the community can meet the Head of School and find out more about SFG; its vision, building, curriculum and uniform.
