Adam Smith’s Black Wax live! with special guest Paul Collins.

Phoenix Community Radio – 15 – 17 West Gate, Harlow, CM20 1JR

ADAM Smith’s Black Wax is a weekly show hosted by former venue promoter and current touring bassist Adam Smith. Each week a mix of Rock & Roll, Punk and Soul records are selected from Adam’s personal collection. Come and join us at Phoenix Community Radio studios and form an audience for a special live performance from Paul Collins. As a member of the LA based power pop trio ‘The Nerves’ Paul Collins is a cult icon. The Nerves wrote and recorded the original version of ‘Hanging On The Telephone’ later a big hit for Blondie. The Nerves’ guitarist, Jack Lee, also penned ‘Come Back And Stay’ a UK top 5 hit for Paul Young, which features in Paul Collins’ live shows.

Following the split of The Nerves, and a brief project ‘The Breakaways’ Paul Collins formed ‘The Beat’ (aka Paul Collins Beat) who released their debut self titled LP in 1979. The album features the song ‘Walking Out On Love’ which was covered by Green Day at the launch of their American Idiot Broadway musical.

Now signed to Alive Naturalsound records (an early home of the Black Keys) Paul Collins will embark on his first ever solo European tour, including this special stop off in Harlow as part of Adam Smith’s Black Wax radio show.

Doors will open at 4:30pm with the radio show kicking off at 5pm. Paul Collins will join Adam in the studio for a quick chat and to spin some records prior to taking to the stage for an intimate live set which will also be broadcast as part of the radio show. The show will finish at 7pm and everything will be wrapped up by 7:30pm so you’ll be home for Call The Midwife.

Entry is £5, advance tickets are available from www.wegottickets.com There is a licensed bar so bring your ID!

PCR is located in 15 – 17 West Gate, Harlow (The old Lloyds building on the corner opposite Little Walk). If you can’t make it down to be in the audience you can listen in live on www.phoenixcommunityradio.co.uk
