Characters galore at Harlow Film and TV Convention at the Harvey Centre

THE Harvey Centre in Harlow hosted the first ever Harlow Film & TV Con on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May 2017. The event celebrated iconic TV and film through the decades and was a roaring success.

During the event, customers met the men behind the voices of a variety of iconic TV and film characters. These included:

Mark Ryan – best known for the voice of Bumblebee, Lockdown and Jetfire in the recent Transformers movies. More recently, Mark can be found playing the character Gates in Black Sails, while 80’s kids will remember him as Nasir in the 1980’s TV series ‘Robin of Sherwood’.

Marc Silk who provided the voices for both Scooby-Doo and Shaggy in the current cartoon series of Scooby-Doo. He has also voiced the narration of In the Night Garden, and is well known for providing the voice of Johnny Bravo. Another of the biggest names in his repertoire is the voice of Aks Moe in Star Wars: Episode The Phantom Menace.

Ross Mullan portrayed the White Walker in Game of Thrones, and has featured in many episodes of Doctor Who, playing characters including The Silence, Wraith and The Teller. Ross also played Pemphredo in Clash of the Titans.

Hugh Mitchell, who played Colin Creevey in Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets, was also in attendance.

The UK 501st Garrison wowed the crowds on Sunday with their legion of Star Wars characters. The UK Garrison was formed in 2000 and has gone on to become one of the most impressive Star Wars costuming groups in the UK.

As you’d expect much loved The Harvey Centre store, ‘Three Darths’ had a strong presence at the event, with a large number of special offers and activity running throughout the store. These included a raffle to win a Funko Pop! Vinyl DC Bombshells Wonder Woman Chase figure worth £50.

The Panic Room, an escape room attraction in Harlow, was at the centre throughout the weekend and ran a competition for one lucky customer to win an experience voucher for up to eight people.

The Harvey Centre’s very own Cineworld Cinema handed out a number of giveaways including pick ‘n’ mix and popcorn throughout the weekend. They also ran a competition with free cinema tickets to be won.

The centre also had a number of additional traders present throughout the weekend offering a variety of all things wacky and wonderful. These included 3D Framing and Memorabilia, Darkside Goodies, Essex Toy Hunter, Coineagan Designs, Shed Loads of Magic, Seen the Movie and Gavin’s Jewellery.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “This was the first event that we have ever run like this and it was a huge success. I would like to thank everyone that got involved – it was a real attraction for families, TV fans and film buffs alike, with lots to see and do across the entire weekend!”
