LICENSING Officer Jenny McCallum was crowned ‘National Star’ of Harlow’s regional Pubwatch for ‘Outstanding Dedication and Social Responsibility’ by Chief Constable Steve Kavanagh last week (17th May), with the support of chief sponsors Stonegate Pub Company.

The presentation was hosted by Pubwatch member the Clockhouse in Harlow, one of 25 pubs owned by Stonegate Pub Company in the Essex area that participate in the local scheme.

The National Star award recognises an outstanding member of the community who has shown exceptional commitment in delivering Pubwatch’s key aim to promote a safe drinking environment in the community.

Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh said: “I don’t make a habit of going to the pub at 10 in the morning but it was the right place to honour the fantastic work Jenny has done! Alcohol-related crime has a big impact on our communities and Jenny’s work over the last 17 years has made Harlow safer. I’m delighted for Jenny and this award is testament to her dedication and hard work with local partners.”

National Pubwatch Representative Steve Evans added: “Out of all the nominees in the East of England Region, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award. Jenny is a well-respected Officer, whose work ethic and commitment to the community is second to none. The success of any local Pubwatch scheme depends on having a good working relationship between licensee’s and police, she is relentless in her efforts to make Harlow’s community a safe one and a credit to Essex Police ”.

A surprised Jenny said: “Thank you so much, it is truly a great honour to receive this award, I am absolutely ‘gob smacked’. What a super surprise I had no idea, thanks also to my two pub watch’s who supported this award. I really am only doing my job which I love, I am still on cloud nine”.

The Regional Star Awards were presented to mark the 20th anniversary of National Pubwatch.

The ceremony was hosted at The Clock House in Harlow Town Centre by Stonegate Pub Company who own and operate over 700 premises in the UK and work closely with both Pubwatch and Police to ensure community safety. Steve Evans added “I would like to thank Stonegate Pub Company who are one of the major supporters and sponsors of National Pubwatch, showing their on-going commitment to responsible drinking.”
