MORE than 21 venues will be opening their gates to the public in aid of St Clare Hospice during their 23rd annual Open Gardens Weekend.

The two-day horticultural event, which is being held on 24 and 25 June, is an opportunity to explore some of the area’s hidden treasures and best kept green spaces and is a must for all lovers of flora and fauna.

New for 2017, St Clare Hospice will be welcoming members of the public into their own garden. BBC One Show gardener and St Clare Patron, Christine Walkden, will be officially launching the event on Saturday 24 June at the hospice in Hastingwood.

Christine Walkden said: “I am delighted to be officially welcoming members of the public into St Clare’s garden this year. One of the things our patients tell us again and again is how much they appreciate having access to our beautifully maintained grounds, so it is wonderful to share this hidden-gem with our community. I would encourage everyone with a passion for beautiful gardens to take part and visit the magnificent gardens of the St Clare catchment area.”

A total of 21 gardens in and around Harlow, Church Langley and Hastingwood will be opening their gates to the public in aid of St Clare during this year’s Open Gardens Weekend; ranging from cottage and farmhouse gardens to courtyards and the historic walled garden of the Harlow Museum. Many of the garden owners will be providing additional attractions such as music, raffles and plant, bric-a-brac and craft stalls. Refreshments, including homemade cakes and ploughman lunches, will be available at the majority of venues.

The 2017 Open Gardens weekend is being held on 24 and 25 June at venues around Hastingwood and Harlow. Christine Walkden will be attending the opening of the hospice garden from 10.00-11.00am on Saturday 24 June at St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex, CM17 9JX.

Entry to all the participating gardens is by brochure only. They cost £5 each and contain all the details and locations of the gardens that will be open over the weekend.

Brochures are now on sale and are available from St Clare Community Fundraiser Dani De’ath on 01279 773738 or [email protected]
