The Queen’s Speech
HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has reacted to the Queen’s Speech
Mr Halfon said: “This is an important Queen’s Speech to help unify our country, ensure we get the best deal for an independent Britain as we withdraw from the EU, and to help some of the most vulnerable in our society.
“I welcome the Queen’s Speech today as it sets in motion Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. There will be new legislation to set in train control over our own boarders and laws.
“The Queen has confirmed the Government’s intention to protect investment in the NHS, schools and other vital public services.
“The speech also set out important measures to help those in rented accommodation. The Government will stand up for those renting their homes by prohibiting landlords from charging “letting fees”.
The Government will also help the most vulnerable as it looks to strengthen laws against domestic violence. New measures will include stopping the cross-examination of victims by their perpetrators in court and establishing a Domestic Violence and Abuse Commissioner to support victims.
