CHURCH Langley and New Hall residents were up in arms after the Harlow Council Planning Committee agreed to shut off part of London Road.

The committee approved a Bus Gate to be put in place between the turn off for New Hall and Mark Hall school.

As you may see from our film below a number of residents spoke. They were followed by Old Harlow councillor, Joel Charles and Church Langley councillor, Simon Carter.

After a consultant for the applicants presented their case, the committee discussed the application.

A number of Labour councillors saw it as a “safety and sustainability” issue and so indicated that they would be voting for the application.

Conservative councillor Andrew Johnson asked a number of deep and probing questions at the councillor officers but felt there was a lack of clarity. He voted against.

There was more than a few murmurings of discontent when Old Harlow councillor Mike Garnett described the consequences as a “little inconvenience” and also made reference to how Church Langley residents were supportive of plans for Junction 7a of the M11.

Four councillors voted for the application and two against.
