THE LEADER of Harlow Council has set out plans to appoint a new chief executive.

Last week, YH reported that there seemed to be a delay in the appointment.

Councillor Jon Clempner, Leader of the Council, said: “The new Managing Director post was initially advertised in May and June with 57 applications received and interviews held with three candidates.

“Unfortunately it has not be possible to recommend a permanent appointment to the Council so far. With it being the time of year when many people go away further recruitment activity for this post has been put on temporary hold.

“As agreed at the Council meeting in April if a Managing Director is not in post when the current Chief Executive leaves at the end of October, then the Council’s Head of Governance, Brian Keane, will be appointed Head of Paid Service until a Managing Director takes up their post.”
