ON Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th August, The Water Gardens Shopping Centre, hosted their first ever Film Festival as part of their Summer of Fun campaign.

Hundreds of shoppers were treated to a free summer event, courtesy of the Water Gardens last weekend, the first ever “Garden Film Festival”. Showing family friendly films throughout the weekend, including The Minions Movie, The Amazing Spiderman, Finding Nemo, Paddington Bear and Zootropolis on the big outdoor screen.

Customers enjoyed themselves as they basked in the sunshine, indulged on free portions of popcorn and their pre-made picnics. Helping to keep shoppers cool, Costa sampled their summer coolers and FIVE GUYS sampled delicious milkshake samples, whilst Nandos offered a takeaway picnic service direct to customer’s deck chairs.

The event received positive feedback from many customers on social media:

“Saw Zootropolis with the kids, a nice way to spend Sunday. Thanks”

“Enjoyed watching Zootropolis with my little girl. Thank you for a lovely day”

“My girls are loving it!”

The Water Gardens has recently welcomed a new centre manager on board. Simon Plumb has been appointed and is bringing with him a wealth of local knowledge and retail experience.

Simon previously worked for the Harvey Centre as Operations Manager for the past six years and has worked closely with many of the other shopping centres across Essex and London.

Simon commented: “I’m so pleased to be given this exciting opportunity to manage the Water Gardens Shopping Centre. I’ve got some great ideas for the Centre and I’m looking forward to working with our retailers and various town stakeholders.

“The film festival weekend was my first experience of a Water Garden’s organised event and I was thrilled with the customer response and turnout. Hundreds of families were in attendance watching great films, in our picturesque gardens… and in the sunshine! It couldn’t have got much better! A big thank you to everyone who attended and we look forward to welcoming you to the Centre again soon.”
