For many, it was quite an emotional occasion, as they reflected on the long and sometimes frustrating journey from Ram Gorse to Latton Farm.

President Alan Price summed it up neatly when he described the men in 1955, who first laid the roots of rugby union as they carried the posts onto the pitch.

There were also emotion in the air as Harlow’s own former England Under-21, Jon Locke reflected on how proud this father, former president, Chris Locke would have been to see the club open at Latton Farm.

But the day was also a celebration of the present and the future as, following a hilarious speech by Jason Leonard, a special bronze sculpture of a ram (by Ross Loveday) was unveiled before everyone went out to watch the First XV take on West Norfolk.

A film of the speeches and unveiling is below.
