Tree of remembrance for much loved councillor Muriel Jolles

THE family and friends of former councillor for Old Harlow, Muriel Jolles, attended a tree planting in her memory, following her death earlier this year. She had represented Old Harlow for twelve years until 2016 when she stood down. Her family chose a site at Garden Terrace Road to plant an almond tree, three years after Muriel herself had planted a tree in remembrance of soldiers from the area who went off to the first world war and never came back, and of her own relatives who suffered during the conflict.

During her time as councillor, Muriel was a trustee for Fawbert and Barnard school, helped organise Neighbourhood Action Panels along with holding monthly councillor surgeries. She encouraged the establishment of Residents Associations and an active support of the Inter-Faith Group.
