Over a hundred firearms handed in during amnesty

News / Mon 20th Nov 2017 at 06:31pm

122 firearms have been handed in to us during the first week of our firearm surrender.

Gun Amnesty

It is running for two weeks from Monday, November 13 until Sunday, November 26.

We are asking you to hand in to us any unwanted or unlicensed firearms you have to stop them from falling into the wrong hands.

There were more than 900 offences in Essex last year which involved a firearm and 1,784 firearms were seized.

During the first seven days 122 firearms were handed in – 63 real firearms, 58 imitation or air weapons and a stun gun.

You can hand in any items into one of eight police stations around the county between 9am and 4.30pm – Basildon, Braintree, Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester, Grays, Harlow and Southend.

We held a similar surrender last year, between October 31 and November 11, and a total of 129 firearms were handed in.
