Essex pub rock legends Eddie and The Hot Rods announced last week that 2018 will be their last year of performing, and they are set to bow out in style after choosing Burnt Mill Academy’s ‘Club Foot’ venue to host their last ever Harlow show.

As part of Independent Music Venue week, the band will be blasting their swan song through the speakers at Burnt Mill on February 2nd, just over a year since they headlined the last ever gig at The Square.

Founded in 1975, the Essex band had a string of hits throughout the 70’s and 80’s, most memorably with ‘Do Anything You Wanna Do’, arguably one of the great rock anthems of the decade.

Despite a few line up changes over the years the band have consistently delivered with front man Barrie Masters at the helm, and their reputation for knockout live performances has brought them widespread acclaim and a loyal following.

Hot Rods guitarist Richard, who attended Burnt Mill in the 1970’s and still lives in Harlow, is also a former co-owner of The Square. He said: “We are trying to keep live music going in the town. Club Foot is the nearest thing we have to a venue which can afford artistically to put music on in the town which does not follow the usual format of cover bands. It’s quite a gamble for pubs to put on original music and that’s what The Square was all about and what we hope Club Foot will be all about.”

Club Foot hit the ground running in May when it was launched by the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio with an appearance by Kasabian, who christened the venue with an acoustic set.

In the wake of The Square’s closure, Club Foot has managed to embody the virtues of its much loved predecessor, giving people of all ages somewhere to go to enjoy quality live music and providing Harlow with a venue that can nurture the musical aspirations and curiosities of local youngsters.

Adam Smith, Club Foot manager and former co-owner of The Square, said: “It’s been a great year for us. We’ve had the honour of working with Steve White and Al Murray on the tribute to Bob Armstrong; hosting the Harlow is 70 Scooter Ride and watching young people rock at the Battle of the Bands. We’re now very pleased to be a part of Independent Venue Week and are proud to be hosting Eddie & The Hot Rods for their final show.’

Eddie and the Hot Rods play Club Foot on February 2nd with support from Cyanide Pills and Los Pepe’s.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from www.independentvenueweek.com and www.musicglue.com/clubfoot
