MORE than £40,000 has been raised to help a travel agent from Harlow and her boyfriend, who have been seriously injured in a car crash while on holiday in Thailand.

Abbie Sontag and Pete Brudenell are now in hospital in Bangkok, having undergone several emergency operations.

However, Abbie has found out that her travel insurance doesn’t cover her medical bills which may reach nearly £60,000 by the time she can come home.

Original story below.

A CAMPAIGN to help a Harlow woman injured in a horror crash in Thailand needs your help.

Abbie Sontag has suffered multiple injuries after a taxi, she and her partner Pete were travelling in, collided with a lorry.

With severe injuries and no insurance, her family have launched an appeal.

Here is their appeal and the link to the gofund me website.

“Abbie and her Lovely partner Pete had only been in Thailand for a couple of days before the accident happened. They were travelling from Phuket to Khao Lak in a local taxi when they were involved in a head on collision with a lorry, where they have both suffered severe injuries and were admitted to Phuket hospital Bangkok. We were receiving regular updates from Pete after he had his operation and was on the road to recovery, he informed us every step of the way and was giving us the positive energy that we needed.

“Abbie’s injuries consisted of 3 broken ribs, ruptured spleen and bowel along with a break in her spine. She has had the operation to repair her spleen, bowel and broken ribs and is awaiting her operation on her spine which is due in the next few days.

“Her Mum, Stepdad and Sister got the first available flight to the hospital the next day after the accident and are currently at her bedside. When they arrived they made the discovery that abbie doesn’t have any travel insurance and will not be covered for any of the operations she has had and the operation that is due.. she believed she had travel insurance with her bank, but she doesn’t.

“This is where our call for help comes in. This doesn’t deserve to happen to anyone and for us especially our sweet, caring, positive, brave and courageous Abbie.

“Please can we ask for anyone to make a donation towards her surgery, it doesn’t matter how big or small.. we just need to get her well and home. If 3500 people, just a tiny fraction of the population donated just £10 we would have reached our goal to help Abbie.. that’s a pack of cigarettes, not even 2 pints of beer in London and the takeaway you was going to have tonight.

“We are greatly thankful for all the kind souls in word and thankful to have Abbie and Pete with us today.
