Dozens of families have signed up for St Clare’s Go Bright Walk!

DOZENS of families have signed up to take part in this summer’s first-ever St Clare Hospice family-friendly 5k fundraising event – the Go Bright Walk.

The inaugural Go Bright Walk will be taking place in the Water Gardens, Harlow, on Saturday 14th July 2018 and features a family 5k fun run or walk around the town, plus a festival of stalls, games and treats at The Watergardens. Event organisers aim to raise more than £15,000 to fund the charity’s vital care and hope to recruit more than 500 walkers to join the ‘brightest 5k in town’.

Amongst participants will be one of St Clare Hospice’s Community Team Administrators, Leann Arkell, who has worked at the Hospice for over 2 years:

“I work as an administrator in the Community and Hospice at Home Teams, which are teams of specialist nurses and nursing assistants who visit, support and care for patients and their families in their own homes. In my role, I see first-hand how much our care means to patients and families. Being at home is special, and it is special for us to be able to care for people there. It is an honour for me and my family to do our part in helping to fundraise for the Hospice too!”

Leann will be taking part in the 5k Go Bright Walk with her husband Mark and their two children, 7 year old Joseph and 4 year old Olivia. The family of four also fundraised for St Clare in May when they did the ‘Rookie’ Nuclear Races muddy obstacle course in Ongar. Go Bright Walk will be their second St Clare event of the summer, making them a double-fundraising family!

Commenting on their family challenge, Leann said: “The kids absolutely loved the Nuclear mud race. It is the only time they can get muddy without being told off! It was a great day out as a family, and we loved doing it for St Clare. So far we have raised nearly £200 on our fundraising page. We are keeping our page open and are making it a ‘double challenge’ by taking part in St Clare’s Go Bright Walk in July too. All four of us will be doing the 5k walk – in our brightest clothes! – but this time we will be making sure we don’t get muddy!!”

The Go Bright Walk will set off at 11am with free entry to a family-friendly festival of stalls taking place in the Water Gardens from 10am to 4pm. The 5k route around Harlow town is both wheelchair and pushchair friendly, and all children under 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Advanced entry costs £12 for adults (over 16 years) and £5 for children (4-15 years) with kids under 3 going free! A family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) costs £30 in advance. On the day entry costs £15 for adults, £7 for children and £40 a family. Entry includes a pair of rainbow sweatbands and a Go Bright medal.
