AN INSPIRATIONAL ROLE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MOVING OUR ASPIRATIONS FORWARD

HARLOW and Gilston Garden Town Board is looking to recruit a leading figure to help set and steer the direction of the delivery of the New Garden Town in and around the Harlow and Gilston area. The local plans provide for a minimum of 16,000 homes to 2033 with 7,000 homes planned for the Gilston Area beyond the plan period. This major project will provide good quality villages and neighbourhoods, homes, jobs and infrastructure for new and existing residents.

The Harlow and Gilston area was designated as a Garden Town by Central Government in January 2017 and since then a great deal of work has been carried out. The Vision of the Garden Town has been out to consultation and a draft Transport Strategy and Sustainable Transport Corridor study are being developed for consultation. Key work strands have been set up with regular Garden Town Board meetings take place, and significant progress has been made in the partners’ Local Plans. The Garden Town status has unlocked Government funding to accelerate the delivery of much-needed housing and it is a key commitment of the Board to maintain momentum going and to create places that people are proud of, and want to live in.

The Board is now looking to recruit an Independent Chair who has passion, vision, determination and a true commitment to bring the Garden Town project to fruition. Working with the Board, the Garden Town Director, residents, town/parish councils, businesses and other stakeholders to steer the project with enthusiasm, this role will bring exciting opportunities to help shape the future of a new Garden Town and to create lively, sustainable communities.

“I am very proud of the work that has been carried out to date, along with the dedication of the teams already established. We have made such strong progress and now need an Independent and experienced Chair to join us on this unique journey to provide further support to ensure we deliver our ambitious plans. Working together we will build on the area’s strengths and aspirations to create a sustainable, beautiful and economically sound environment for our future generations.” Cllr Danny Purton, Current Chair of the Garden Town Board.
