Teaching schools in Harlow and Epping are teaming up to encourage new teachers into the area.

BURNT Mill Academy Teaching School, West Essex SCITT, NET Academies Trust, Harlow Teacher Training Partnerships, Essex Teacher Training, West Essex School Direct Partnership, Teach Harlow and Forest Independent Primary Collegiate are hosting a drop-in event to share information about training to be a teacher within the organisations.

On Saturday October 13 between 1pm and 6pm, those keen to find out more about becoming a teacher can pop along to Harlow Study Centre to look around various stalls detailing the teacher training programmes.

Those interested in a career in teaching will also meet representatives from schools which deliver teacher training in Harlow and Epping, speak to teaching experts to receive one-to-one advice on the training options, receive personalised advice on UCAS applications and funding and attend presentations on primary and secondary teacher training.

Donna Walsh, director of Burnt Mill Academy Teaching School, said: “Teaching schools and Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers in Harlow and Epping Forest are collaborating to host a joint recruitment drive every term, opening further opportunities to recruit the right candidates for our area. We are supporting each other to promote teacher training in Harlow and Epping Forest and to streamline the application process for potential trainees.

“Harlow, in particular, is considered to be a hard to recruit to area and many schools are facing the prospect of teacher shortages.

“We are keen for potential trainees to come and find out about and choose the right training programme to suit them.”

Potential trainees must be graduates or working towards a degree, have a C grade or above in English and maths if interested in teaching in secondary schools, plus a C grade or above in science if looking to work in primaries.

Miss Walsh said: “We are looking for enthusiastic, conscientious, innovative, proactive people; those who want to be successful, make a difference and thrive within outstanding educational atmospheres.

“At Burnt Mill Academy Teaching School, we are a growing multi-academy trust offering opportunities from early years to Key Stage 5, so we are never short of challenges for our teachers.

“We have placements to train across north and west Essex and east London, as well as Harlow and Epping.”
