THE Harvey Centre in Harlow has kicked off Christmas in spectacular style with a day of free special events and entertainment, which took place on Saturday 17th November from 11am until 4pm.

The centre was filled with festive cheer as customers were joined by a host of extraordinary entertainers including two hilarious kings, who spent the day amusing shoppers of all ages with their gags and ridiculous props. Joining them were the festive market traders who showed off their catalogue of weird gadgets including a sprouting catapult and Christmas cracker safety goggles.

Bringing a further touch of comedy to the event, the Sugar Plump Fairies re-interpreted the famous story of The Nutcracker in their own special way. Plus a musically gifted Elf Band entertained guests with their traditional songs including Jingle Bell Rock and Winter Wonderland. Everyone joined in and danced with the band as they taught shoppers their iconic ‘Elf Shuffle’ and got everyone into the Christmas spirit.

To add to the music madness an amazing mobile piano was driven around the centre by a madcap “nun” called Sister Ruth. She stopped to entertain families using comedy banter, hilarious dance moves, facial contortions, sound effects and unusual renditions of some favourite festive songs. Her tongue in cheek comedy act performed on a baby grand piano, built onto an electrically powered vehicle definitely had the wow factor!

Finally the iconic Granny Turismo duo were at the event, ready to tell tales of the good old days of Christmas past. Riding their souped-up shopping trollies, complete with racing car sound effects and festive music, around the centre they created laughter and mayhem wherever they went.

The Harvey Centre would also like to announce that the centre will be open for late night shopping on Thursday 13 December, and then from Monday 17 December to Saturday 22 December. To give shoppers extra time to prepare for Christmas, the centre will be open until 7pm on each of these days.

The centre’s Santa’s Grotto is now open for children to enjoy and this year is bigger and better than ever before and styled as a giant cookie house.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “We’re thrilled at the success of our Christmas launch event. The entertainment provided a great mix of comedy and nostalgia, which went down really well with customers throughout the day – truly getting them in the festive spirit! We’d like to take this opportunity to wish our customers a very Merry Christmas!”
