News / Mon 24th Dec 2018 at 01:11pm

HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has written to local residents to tell them what he is doing to keep the town’s libraries open.

Mr Halfon said: “After being informed about these proposals, I immediately wrote to the Leader of the Council and have had a number of discussions with Essex councillors, stressing the importance of these libraries to Harlow residents.

“I’ve raised the issue in Parliament and have had a meeting with the Libraries Minister,, Michael Ellis MP. He has said to me that the Council is required by the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 “to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service for all persons.

“I have also highlighted the need to look beyond just the number of book loans and consider the biggest impact…make on community life”.

“Please email me with your views and I would be pleased to forward on your correspondence to Essex County Council [email protected]”.
