Anglia Ruskin University’s successful Law Clinic has teamed up with local solicitors
ANGLIA Ruskin University’s successful Law Clinic is to expand into Harlow to offer free legal advice on family law matters to people who might otherwise not have access to it.
The Law Clinic was established in 2018 in Cambridge and Chelmsford, and had provided more than £32,000 in free legal advice by the start of 2019. Now the clinic is expanding, moving into Harlow and Peterborough to provide the service for those local communities.
The clinic is able to provide pro bono service by collaborating with local law firms and providing opportunities for Anglia Ruskin Law students to work alongside them. The clinic covers areas such as relationship breakdown; domestic violence and abuse; separation and divorce; and child custody and visitation rights.
Sarah Calder, Director of Anglia Ruskin’s Law Clinic, said: “We are delighted to be able to expand our successful Law Clinic out to other areas to help more people who might otherwise struggle to get legal advice.
“Since the cuts in legal aid a few years ago, many people don’t really know where to turn for these matters and not only can we help provide support, it is also a valuable experience for our students.”
The Harlow clinic will operate out of the town’s Citizens’ Advice Bureau in The Harvey Centre.
Last month, the Law Clinic won the Excellence in Pro Bono award at the Cambridgeshire and District Law Society’s annual awards.
