Harlow hospital takes the stage at international Giant Health Event 2019

THE Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) will be among leaders of health innovation taking the stage at Chelsea Football Club as part of the international Giant Health Event 2019 next week (16 October).

The deputy director of quality improvement, Robert Ayers, will be among experts speaking at the event, which is drawing thousands of passionate innovators intent on driving forward advances in healthcare technology. It promises to be Europe’s largest and most valuable festival of health tech innovation and takes place over two days, on 15 and 16 October, at the Chelsea FC stadium in London.

Mr Ayers will be appearing alongside Roy Lilley, an influential NHS writer, broadcaster and commentator at the Institute of Healthcare Management, who also co-founded the Academy of Fabulous Stuff.

The Academy is a social movement for sharing health and social care ideas and stimulating actions, both large and small, to deliver improvement in healthcare. PAHT has been collaborating closely with the leaders of the Academy and has embraced the organisation’s commitment to innovation to improve patient care. Its work has gained recognition at the Academy’s yearly awards, with PAHT winning the title of Champion Trust of the Year for two years (2017 and 2018). The annual Fab Change Day celebration of healthcare advances, on 16 October, will form part of the Giant Health Event 2019.

PAHT will be affirming the ethos of Fab Change 2019 by joining NHS colleagues across the country to celebrate and share improvement work in health and care. PAHT has been developing more than 100 quality improvement projects devoted to enhancement of patient care at the hospital, which have been uploaded to the Academy of Fabulous Stuff website. Among this range of actions are improvements in dementia care, early diagnosis and treatment of sepsis and enhanced self-management for patients with diabetes.. The array of work has seen significant improvements in patient outcomes and experience.

Mr Ayers said: “In a short time, the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust has built up a reputation, with the support of Academy of Fabulous Stuff, for its commitment to continuous quality improvement and this is reflected in the invitation to speak alongside its co-founder at this important event. This will be a great opportunity to share and celebrate the amazing work our people do to for the benefit of our patients, staff and wider community.

“Fab Change is a fantastic opportunity for our people to come together with their improvement ideas and energy to take a leading role in change, no matter how big or small.
As Fab Change Champion Trust for the second year running, we are aiming to build on our success this year, showcase the fantastic improvement work underway at the hospital and widen participation to our community partners and local colleges.”
