Cornish Cafe owners taken to court by Harlow Council over environmental health breaches

HARLOW Council has taken the owners of a well-know cafe to court over a number of allegations in relation to environmental health.

The cafe in question is the Cornish Cafe on Edinburgh Way.

Mrs Fikriye Aygunoglu, of 1st Floor, North Westgate House, The High and Agora Cafe UK Ltd have both pleaded guilty to ten charges.

The charges (in general) relate to food safety and hygiene including

1. Failed to keep these premises clean and maintain them in good repair and condition.

2. Failed to ensure that ceiling surfaces in rooms where food is prepared was constructed and finished so as to prevent the accumulation of dirt and the shedding of particles.

3. Failed to ensure that all articles, fittings and equipment which comes into contact with food were effectively cleaned and, where necessary, disinfected at a frequency sufficient to avoid any risk of contamination .

4. Failed to ensure that at all stages of production, processing and distribution, food was protected against any contamination in such a way that it would be unreasonable to be consumed in that state .

5. Failed to ensure that adequate provision was made for the storage and disposal of food waste, non-edible by-products and other refuse.
Contrary to regulation 19(1) and (2) of the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

6. Failed to ensure that food handlers are supervised and instructed and/or trained in food hygiene matters commensurate with their work activity.

7. Failed to keep food namely cooked pork sausages, which are likely to support the growth of pathogenic microorganisms or the formation of toxins, at or above a temperature of 63°C.

The case has been adjourned until July 24th at Chelmsford magistrates court.
