THE Jack Petchey Foundation are offering £3000 total in prizes to the winners of their song-writing competition which launched last week. Jack Petchey’s Anthem competition is FREE to enter for all young people aged 11-25 from London and Essex.

The initiative is designed to reach young people looking for a creative outlet in lockdown, to write and record an inspiring song to celebrate young people and to look to the future.

The winning singer/group will be awarded £2000 to be spent on music equipment or towards a music project/study costs, the opportunity to record their track in a professional studio and will be invited to take part in a collaborative performance at one of our high profile events.

Second place will be awarded £650 and third place £350 to be spent on music equipment or towards a music project/study costs.

The overall winner will be selected by a panel of judges including Ruti, singer song-writer and winner of The Voice UK 2018, and Ashley Singh, solo artist and previous Jack Petchey Achievement Award winner.

The competition is part of the Foundation’s celebration of 21 years supporting young people.

Sir Jack Petchey, aged 94, said: “It is right that we should support our youth in this way. It is right that we encourage and nurture them to grow their talents – whatever those talents may be and they have as much fun as possible on the way!”

Trudy Kilcullen MBE, CEO the Jack Petchey Foundation, said: “We hope this competition will capture the attention of young people at home looking for a creative outlet during this time, and particularly those that have not yet had the confidence or the chance to get their song-writing out there. During lockdown we’ve seen amazing examples of musicians and groups collaborating virtually from different places and we want to inspire and support young groups and solo singers across London and Essex to get involved.”

In addition to the monetary prizes for first, second and third place, the top five shortlisted entries will be invited to take part in an online one to one workshop with an industry professional who will offer guidance and professional feedback.

The competition, which runs until July 31st 2020, is free to enter via the online form on our website: https://www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk/anthemcompetition/. All information including Terms and Conditions can be found here.
