Letter to Editor: Appeal to Harlow Council over business grants

News / Mon 1st Feb 2021 at 09:44am

Dear Editor,

I have been a small business owner for over 30 years and I have worked tirelessly to keep my business afloat.

So to discover that – after nearly a year of this pandemic and most small businesses being forced to close for months – Harlow Council has not paid out hundreds of Government grants to Harlow’s small businesses is disgusting.

These grants are an absolute lifeline for our small businesses worth thousands of pounds each and Harlow Council has been sitting on them since December. The stress and anxiety these business owners are experiencing is monumental.

Other local Councils have had no problems at all in paying them out. Why are businesses in our town being hurt simply because they are in Harlow?

The Council have been pressed on this for nearly two months and still haven’t resolved it. It needs to be sorted now. No more dither, no more delay. Pay the Government grants to Harlow’s small businesses or face huge swathes of business closures.

Councillor for Harlow West
