Letter to Editor: Harlow hairdresser appeals to Harlow Council over business grants

I AM not involved in politics, I am simply a small business owner. I run a mobile hairdressers helping many of our elderly also care home residents.
I haven’t received any grants from the Council. I understand that the Council have the money from the Government but are not paying them out. I am at my wits end.
I am fully aware of the grants I could apply for as I took the time to read the full government guidelines before I started.
After visiting the government website and reading all the details of each grant
I knew what grant I would be applying for but unfortunately once you get onto the harlow council site it becomes exceedingly difficult to understand.
I do not know where to turn or what to do because the Council has been so unhelpful. They take so long to respond to emails and when they do it is a blunt reply – no empathy for how it feels to be at the end of the road with no money – because of their chaos.
I can give you a full list of councils which have given grants to mobile hairdressers at last count 57 across the UK. Also I have visited other councils’ websites to compare how they set their grant application system out there is a remarkable difference.
So it is their fault. Not the Government or anyone else’s but theirs and it is me and my family that are suffering.
Now they want me to pay more Council Tax as well? This Council is a disgrace to our town and they have turned their backs on small businesses. I do not know how I will go on. And it is not just me, so many businesses in Harlow are in exactly the same position.
My granddaughter and her friends started a business in a beauty salon and they are having problems too. It is a disgrace. This is your lives they are playing with and getting interest on all the money they should have paid out. Wake up Harlow Council or else you will not be getting any money from anywhere as they will have all had to close!!!!!!
