Letter to Editor: I will miss meeting Stan Newens on the high street

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Stan Newens
He often, either popped into the agency (Howick and Brooker) or stopped me whilst he was walking up to the High Street for a short enjoyable
chat, mostly about how the Harlow property market was going, to my surprise!
Also the cricket club who’s history he knew I was keen about. I always found him to be an absolute ‘gentleman’ and always an enjoyable conversation however short it may be.
He did on one occasion invite me to his home and I was astonished by his massive book collection, books everywhere!
And about everything you could imagine. I do hope this unique collection is preserved in its natural form for the benefit of our youngsters here in ‘his’ town.
He seemed to think it would not have any value to anyone ‘after he has gone’ I do hope this will not be the case and the collection is preserved in some form or other as a tribute a truly great human being.
I will miss seeing him strolling up Market Street in his large overcoat or in warmer weather, in his sports jacket and tie.
A lovely man.
