General / Thu 29th Apr 2021 at 12:27pm

HARLOW Council has issued an update on the overflowing bins in the town centre.

YH published a story on Tuesday showing a huge mound of rubbish at the back of Little Walk and East Gate.

Toddbrook councillor Tony Edwards and Harlow MP Robert Halfon had been in contact with the owners of the land (Strawberry Star) and their own council to facilitate a clean up.

On Wednesday a spokesperson for Strawberry Star said: “In response to concerns…it is being actioned and will be cleared by mid to late afternoon (Wednesday).

On Thursday afternoon,, Harlow Council issued the following statement.

“Our officers have looked into the rubbish and overflowing bins on private property at the back of the shops in the town centre and have spoken to the owners of the land.

“In this situation the landowners are responsible for the collection of rubbish from the shops and making appropriate arrangements for the collection of trade waste.

“We understand an issue with the commercial trade waste collection has now been resolved. The bins have been emptied and the remaining waste will be put in the bins and emptied on the next collection.

“Our staff will continue to monitor the situation.”
