Letter to Editor: Don’t park on fire hydrants

General / Sat 9th Oct 2021 at 07:59am

Dear Editor,

I know that parking is a major issue in Harlow but could I please make people aware that parking on fire hydrants could slow the emergency services from tackling house fires.

It is possible that people are not aware that a drain cover painted yellow close to a yellow marker on a nearby kerb indicate a fire hydrant.

It is also possible drivers whose cars are parked on them may have them forcibly moved by emergency services should they need to access the hydrant.

Please be aware that a yellow drain cover is so painted to help tackle house fires quickly. Don’t block them.

Many thanks

Bob Morgan

Good point Bob, As a motorist i despair at the selfishness of some of them what with parking on drop kerbs for crossing and trying to get past with a buggy or walking with children, They seem to think they have a God given right to park where they like but then how often are they given tickets.

Good point Bob its a on going issue around the town unfortunately people will not take any notice they will carry on parking where they like on corners completely blocking the footpath with vehicles. Essex police will still turn a blind eye to illegal parking they drive past and don't deal with the issues yes the residents of harlow will continue to pay council tax towards the police increases each year.
