Letter to Editor: Has Essex County got its priorities wrong?

Dear Editor,
LIVING as I do off Kingsmoor Road, I have taken interest in seeing the path and some of the kerbstones along most of one side of the road being renewed in recent weeks, with work on the other side stating earlier this week.
This has involved a team of workmen taking up the old surface and filling the space with hardcore and then topping it off with tarmac. Meanwhile a couple of potholes can be seen on the road leading into Fir Park and I am sure that many residents like me have thought that for want of a couple of buckets of tarmac these holes could have been filled in whilst the workmen were working just a few feet away.
This path was not in such a bad condition when compared to the huge number of potholes that can be seen on many of the roads across Harlow. I think it is no exaggeration to say that if this team of workman had been employed to fill potholes in the last five weeks, a huge number of them across the town could have been filled in by now.
This scenario does beg the question as to who prioritises road and path repairs, in this case I like many residents think they have got it wrong.
Regards
Nicholas Taylor
Where politics are concerned there is every reason not to fill in the pot holes! and teh arguing continues as I have explained before politics should never ben involved in council and highway issues!!!!!
The letter from Nicholas Taylor prompts me to say Harlow residents have complained for two decades regarding potholes and ECC are not supportive. Yet in 2008 they boasted that successful trials in Harlow would "lead to long term cost savings of tens of thousands of pounds". [Quoted from Harlow Herald 4/12/2008] I do not support or belong to any single political party, but am far from impressed with ECC (senior staff/Councillors) for a number of reasons apart from potholes. Additionally, 35/40 staff have salaries above £100,000 p.a. Not exactly value for money!
Unfortunately it's the same old complaints about the diabolical condition of our roads, it's even worse that ECC have not even had the balls to reply to any of the complaints. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed, probably a motorbike ryder will ECC then be totally held accountable and get off their asses and do something. When will they take notice
Nicholas’s letter seems entirely correct, and everyone locally seems to be in agreement. Are we at a point where we should consider withholding a portion of our council tax until ECC make a commitment to repair our roads?
Only way to get them filled is by spray painting a massive penis around them!
Mr Taylor is correct. But the problems of Harlow go beyond potholes but to the honesty of politicians who manipulate the media for their own purposes. For instance, you hear of so-called politicians who will freeze Council Tax and then reduce it. Is this an admission that we are paying far more Council Tax than we should? Are Harlow Council officers and so-called politicians going to promise services and then not deliver the services that they promised? Who actually scrutinizes and holds to account politicians and council officers that we pay too much money for? Yes, I totally agree with Mr Taylor on the potholes issues that is causing damage to our cars! But, as long as we have huge lorries pounding our roads this problem will be with the people of Harlow indefinitely!!!
EEC should all be replaced by people who want to make a better place. Some potholes in Harlow are more like craters and are dangerous as cars swerve to miss them which could end up causing an accident.
