Epping Council warn of car park scammers

News / Sat 25th Jun 2022 at 09:16am

DRIVERS are being warned of a parking scam when using the Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) car parks.

They have had reports of drivers being approached by someone offering assistance with using the pay and display ticket machine.

The suspect told the driver to pay by card and then claimed the credit card has been captured by the machine. Drivers may also be approached about a parking fine and asked to pay the fine using our pay and display machines. Our car park machines do not have the ability to do this.

They urge all EFDC car park users not to engage with anyone who offers to assist with paying for parking. If you are approached by someone, even if they have some form of ID, do not give them your card.

No parking attendant will ever ask you for your credit card to pay for parking. Call the police immediately or ask someone for help, then report it to our Customer Contact Centre on 01992 564000.

Simple solution would be for the council to stop charging for parking.

These parasites get everywhere. It’s the elderly and vulnerable I feel sorry for and the very people these parasites are hoping will fall for this scam.
