Parndon Wood Nature Reserve

To get the most out of Harlow, visiting its ancient woods is one place to start. The human-made attractions are unique, but sometimes, you must see what nature offers. And this place is one of the best areas for a walk out in the woods. Just look at this photo and bask in the splendor of nature!

However, one downside to this place is that the hours are odd. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday; some days, they close at 4:00 PM, while others at 9:00 PM. So be sure to look at the hours before you take a trip down to the woods. We don’t want you to be disappointed if you go there and it’s closed.

Pets’ Corner

Another way to enjoy nature is to go to Pets’ Corner, a farmyard full of domesticated animals. Horses, llamas, birds, exotic fish, the list goes on. It’s a great place to take your kids, or visit yourself if you love animals. Best of all, it’s free to enter with a donation box or a purchase at the gift shop. If you’re looking for Instagrammable moments, Pets’ Corner is a great place. Also, it’s inside another location worth visiting, which is:

Harlow Town Park

Another park to visit is Harlow Town Park. It has over 160 acres, meaning it’s big enough to enjoy a few hours with your friends or family. It’s also where Pets’ Corner is so that you can knock out two birds with one stone. Relax in its gardens, have your kids play in its adventure playground, skate at the skate park, enjoy the outdoor gym, and so on. It’s one of Harlow’s best parks, including winning the coveted Green Flag Award. As you can see from this photo, everyone loves it, including the dogs. So bring your pets or your friends, and enjoy a lovely day at Harlow, weather permitting.

Of course, if the weather rucks you out in all your outdoor adventures, an indoor shopping center is one place to turn to. This shopping center has many stores that you’ll love and many places to eat. For example, you can eat American food at Five Guys or Portuguese chicken at Nando’s.

What is fantastic about this shopping center is that it’s open late most nights, staying open until 10:30 to midnight, depending on which day you visit. With many shopping centers retiring for the night, especially after the pandemic, it’s nice to see one still accepting of the late-night crowd.

The Gibberd Garden

Do you want to see more of Harlow’s rich history? Then, you may like to head to the Gibberd Garden. In case you haven’t heard of this place, it was created by the architect Sir Frederick Gibberd. When you visit, you can expect to see some incredible sculptures that will further make you appreciate the arts. Plus, you can find some beautiful flora that will make you appreciate the beauty of nature.

The garden is limited, open three days a week from April until late September/early October. As of this writing, their website is down, making it unknown when they plan to open in 2024. However, it should be open if you intend to make a springtime or summer trip to Harlow. As always, double-check before you plan to visit.

Harlow Museum and Walled Gardens

The Gibberd Garden is a great place to see contemporary art. However, what if you want to see Harlow’s full history? And by full, we’re talking a millennia? Then, you may want to head to the Harlow Museum and Walled Gardens. You can find it all, from fossils to evidence of the Roman Empire to contemporary history.

Also, it has gardens. After some indoor fun, explore outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Like any museum, this place is worth revisiting through its temporary exhibits. For example, this photo shows their exhibit showcasing historic bikes during both World Wars, an example of contemporary history.

The Victoria Hall Theatre

When you visit Harlow, you may want to watch a show at their historic theatre. This building has a rich history, being built in 1888. It’s gone through many iterations, with its place as a theatre starting in 1996. Since then, it’s housed many plays, including those from professionals and amateurs.

And like any community theatre, it’s been in constant danger. For example, Essex County Council wanted it to be redeveloped. However, it was bought by the Victoria Hall Performing Arts Association in 2011 through fundraising. If they didn’t get funding, this section would be different. If you want to see a show there, you support local arts. They have a variety of shows, satisfying most people’s itch.

The Panic Room Harlow

Finally, we have The Panic Room Harlow. Chances are, you’ve heard of or have done escape rooms. These are great places to take your friends and family to test your wits or get lost along the way. The Panic Room has several themed escape rooms, each masterfully crafted to see how mindful you are of your surroundings and puzzle-solving skills. Reserve a spot and see if you can escape.

Final Thoughts

Harlow has many places to explore, from the outdoors to indoor shopping malls. When you visit, you can explore its rich history and have a fun day doing all sorts of things. Not to mention, there are many Instagrammable moments to be had here. So, if you’re ready to have fun, reserve your spot at some of these places, if applicable, and then get ready for a grand old time.
