Football: Frontiers Ladies back in action after five week break

Football / Fri 12th Apr 2024 at 10:47am

SUNDAY saw Frontiers Ladies back in league action for the first time in five weeks as they travelled to Basildon to face Bowers and Pitsea Reserves.

In what were horrendous conditions with the wind, both sides struggled to come to grips with it and would be a game of few chances. It wasn’t until the 33rd minute where the first chance came about when Ash Simonelli picked up the ball from about 25 yards had a shot which the home keep got finger tips to but was unable to stop it fully at first but managed to scramble back and claw the ball off the line.

It would only take a couple of minutes until Frontiers took the lead when Tayla Handscomb picked up the ball 30 yards out, had a shot which went through the keeper’s legs into the back of the net to make it 1-0, and it stayed that way until half time.

Frontiers came out for the second half and found it very difficult to deal with the conditions now playing into the wind and just couldn’t get a foot hold in the game other than one chance which the Bowers keeper pulled off a good save from Ella Fobbester.

They were made to pay on the 66th minute when the home side had a corner which they scored from to make it all level.

With the game coming to an end, it looked like the points would be shared but with three minutes to go a through ball was played splitting our defence which Bowers striker ran onto and shot past the keeper and seal the three points for the home side.

After the game manager Ronnie Yates said very hard one to take today conditions where terrible but obviously same for both sides and they managed to cope with it better than we did and that’s all it came down to in my opinion.

Todays players of the match
Megan Caswell and Anna Anstey
