Harlow Elections 24: Question Time at Passmores this Thursday

Elections / Tue 16th Apr 2024 at 06:57am

A LOCAL election Question Time is set be held on Thursday evening.

The question time (or hustings) will be held at 7pm on Thursday April 18th in the main hall at Passmores Academy, Tracyes Road, Harlow.

This is organised and hosted by Your Harlow. This is a public event.

This is an all-out election year, that is, where all 33 seats are up for election. This is due to boundary changes.

The last time this happened was 2002.

So, with that in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to hold a Question Time.

We have invited the leaders of all the parties.

On the panel

Conservative: Dan Swords

Labour: Chris Vince

Green Party: Yasmin Gregory

Harlow Alliance Party: Nick Taylor

Liberal Democrats: Will Tennison

Ukip: Mark Gough

The event will last one hour and twenty minutes.

Eight questions to be discussed over the 80 minutes.

The questions must be submitted to [email protected].

Ideally, as in Question Time/Any Questions, the person must be available to ask the question in person.

We are trying to keep the questions relevant to what a District Council can control.

The event is free but we will have a charity bucket at the entrance for St Clare Hospice.

Parking available.

We will film this event, should you not be available to make it.

Question: Who will you be voting for this time around? Answer: Not Conservatives or Labour that's for sure! Both parties have ruined this country over the years.

Mr Grumpy, Labour have been historically better at point of use with the NHS. They were the people who brought in min waiting times too from last time it was made awful under the Cons.. That alone is the reason I will be voting Labour, we all need the NHS. They also don't leave as much debt as the Cons, contrary to popular belief and at least their spending isn't all on their rich mates with nothing to show for it..

This is sure to be an absolute joke. Just like they've made our town.

Trace - I suggest you look at the PFI debts that Labour created that have crippled the NHS. The Stafford Hospital report will show you the effects of target culture under Labour. The removing of wheels from trolleys to define them as beds. The ridiculous cap of 7.5k, only recently raised to 10k on Medical School and Nurse training places by both large parties when we have a shortage of 100k of both! The distortion of Medical Priorities under Labour to reduce waiting lists by doing ingrowing toe nails rather than cancer treatment. The creation of NICE to stop new drugs being approved for the NHS. The removal of Matrons from wards. Contract cleaners, Virgin Health and Car Park charges - all under Labour. But this is a Local Election, and the Harlow Council has nothing to do with the NHS. Come along and see what we have to say. Mark Gough -Leader Harlow UKIP.

But Mark . Trace will tell you its about the here and now, she won't admit to what's happened in the past with Labour, they have never made mistakes in her eyes. Wonderful Tony Blair (war crimes)

Trace probably doesn't know that the NHS was a Tory idea hijacked and nationalised by Labour. She also forgets to mention Tony Blair ruined NHS dentistry with the Dental Contract in 2006 and the Unity of Dental Activity.

Trace the NHS was still bad under labour, plus PFI etc. the reality is the NHS is a bad model no other country has followed it most have much better healthcare and outcomes. People need to realise there is no free money, most people take out far more than they ever put in, it is frankly bankrupting the UK and will do as the aging population kicks in. Thats not just the NHS but everything in general. I would bet labour or conservative the NHS does not exist as it is in 5 years as it it just too broken

With all due respect, these hustings were set up solely for the purpose of discussing local issues within the remit of Harlow Council and the respective plans for the town by the parties contesting these elections. There is no point whatsoever in raising national or international issues because whoever is elected will have no influence on such matters. There will be ample opportunity to discuss such matters at the hustings for the General Election, likely later this year. Harlow Council deals with a range of issues that impact on residents of Harlow, e.g. housing, environmental maintenance, discretionary services (Pets Corner, Musuem, etc), Local finances, budget & council tax, regeneration, planning to name a few. The questions and any debate should focus on such issues. I am sure the Panel Chair, Mr Mike Casey is fully aware of this and will conduct the proceedings with impartiality, ensuring that all participants have a fair chance to answer the questions and express their opinions.

All parties are muppets. Public need a vote on getting rid off the whole lot of them, i mean every single 1 and get real peeps in that know how to run this country better and clean up the whole mess that cons and lab got this country into.

I agree with Cathy. We have been"trained"to vote labour or cons .Feel people should consider voting for one of the smaller parties to bring much needed change.Watched a Dan Long video and looks like he won't stand any nonsense .Hope he gives Dan Swords and that bully on YH comments James Leppard hell.I am voting HAP and look forward to watching Nicholas Taylor in action.
