London Marathon: “Wintry Pete” motors to another fantastic time in the big race

Athletics / Mon 22nd Apr 2024 at 07:18am

MANY people in Harlow have got to know Peter Coates over the decades as the face of Wintry Motors in Bush Fair.

The Braintree and District AC runner produced a fantastic time on Sunday of 2 hours 27 minutes and 7 seconds in Sunday’s London Marathon.

Last year, Peter ran 2hrs 28 and the year before that he ran 2hrs 30, so he is getting better and better.

Anyone who knows Pete will tell you he is the most modest of runners and has a wonderfully positive outlook to the sport.

To give you an idea of how fast he was going, his first 5k of 17.13 would have won the seen him win the Harlow parkrun by over a minute. He then would have run another twenty miles at that pace!

Peter comes from a great running dynasty. His father Dennis Coates ran 2.23 for the marathon.

But most of all, Peter is such a modest and thoughtful runner.
