Ward by ward: Netteswell: Will it be elementary for Stefan and co?

Elections / Mon 22nd Apr 2024 at 04:42pm

THIS was a ward in which the Tories won in their great night in 2021.

That now feels like a long time ago.

Since then, Labour have steadied the ship with James Griggs (maj 166) and Nancy Watson ( maj 253) establishing a strong base.

They should go on to return to three councillors with Stefan Mullard-Toal. Since he lost a few years go, Mr Mullard-Toal has gone from strength to strength as an adviser and co-ordinator for the Labour Party across the regions.

He will no doubt bring a strong analytical mind and be an absolute asset to a number of roles in local council that require someone who will scrutinise.

Of course, the other two are up for election. James Griggs has brought a discipline to the Labour group that has been vital. He might well be the most influential person in the Labour group.

Nancy Watson is again, one of those councillors, who only speaks when she feels she has something to say. She is passionate about social issues.

The Greens will be hoping they can improve their performance and get over 100 votes but we suspect this may be a situation when they go backwards.

Yes, there are three Conservative candidates but they may well be just making up the numbers.

However, as we said before, it is worth keeping an eye on the returns with a view to General Election.

YH Prediction: Labour x 3

Netteswell

Wendy Carter (Conservatives)

Elena Hardware (Conservatives)

Vic Petch (Conservatives)

James Griggs (Labour)

Stefan Mullard-Toal (Labour)

Nancy Watson (Labour)

Milly Judd (Green)

Adam Margetts (Green)

Robert Thurston (Liberal Democrats)

The alliance party posted loads of leaflets today which said they will be building bungalows for older Harlow people. I wasn’t going to vote, but after reading that , that’s all I needed to hear . If you want to free up council housing, all you need to do is build bungalows and people in one bed flats, or three bed houses, will move to them and free up flats for single people and houses for families . It’s not rocket science! I know who I’m voting for now and that’s the alliance party!

The people in Harlow Alliance Party actually read the council's report packs before council meetings, something which all Labour shadow cabinet members should try to emulate.
