ST Clare Hospice is to host two Learning Together Study Days in 2024 for health and social care professionals who want to improve their knowledge and understanding of palliative and end-of-life care.

The first is taking place on Tuesday 25th June with a focus on improving end-of-life care for people who have been diagnosed with a neurological condition.

On the day, specialist practitioners in oncology, neurology and palliative care will join St Clare’s expert clinical team to explore the ways in which quality of life can be improved for patients with life-limiting conditions such as MND, Parkinson’s disease and dementia by better supporting their complex physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs.

This will be followed by the second Learning Together Study Day on Thursday 21st November, which will be on the subject of spirituality at the end-of-life and will look into the issues that prevent the spiritual needs of patients from being met.

There will be the opportunity to hear community and religious leaders speak on different religions, faiths and beliefs and what is important to them at the end-of-life, as well as learn more about spiritual and cultural sensitivities when managing the care of dying patients.

Both of the Learning Together Study Days are taking place at Harlow Study Centre and will include lectures, seminars, interactive workshops and information stands. Delegates will have the opportunity to earn five CPD points at each event and will receive a certificate of attendance.

St Clare’s medical director, Prof Dr Qamar Abbas, who leads the Hospice’s education team, said: “At St Clare Hospice, we are passionate about improving standards in palliative and end-of-life care through the continued education of our staff and the wider health and social care profession. Which is why I am delighted to be adding these two new Learning Together Study Days to our education and training programme in 2024.

“We have confirmed a fantastic line-up of special guest speakers on both days, who along with St Clare’s own expert clinical team, will be sharing their expertise and best practice as together we explore the best ways to provide relief from the symptoms, pain and stress of living with a serious progressive illness, whatever the diagnosis.

“Our Learning Together Study Days are designed for all health and social care professionals who work in hospitals, care homes and other settings that care for patients with palliative care needs and are suitable for the entire multidisciplinary team. Delegates can look forward to two great days of expert insight, learning and discussion.”

Registration for the Learning Together Study Days is now open. Places cost £50 and include a buffet lunch. For full details, and to book, visit stclarehospice.org.uk/learning-together.
