Chris Vince attends the House of Commons to be sworn in as MP

News / Tue 16th Jul 2024 at 07:56am

HARLOW’S newest MP Chris Vince has been sworn in at the House of Commons.

Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords take an oath of allegiance to the Crown. This is called swearing in. Members can either swear in using a religious text or take a non-religious, solemn affirmation. They do this before taking their seats in Parliament. This can happen after a general election or by-election.

Mr Vince joins Robert Halfon, Bill Rammell, Jerry Hayes and Stan Newens as the MP for the distinct constituency of Harlow.

The official name of the constituency is Harlow but as it has so many villages surrounding it (Roydon, Nazeing, Hatfield Broad Oak, The Hallingburys etc) we refer to it as Harlow and the villages.
