175 new residential parking spaces created by Harlow Council with more to come

HARLOW Council is removing unused and under occupied garages and hardstandings in council estates to create hundreds of new parking spaces.
Through its open parking programme, the council has already created 175 new residential open parking spaces across Harlow, with further spaces planned.

Work began on the programme at the end of last year with 88 new parking spaces created from hardstandings in Brenthall Towers, Church End, Shawbridge and Red Willow.
At the beginning of this year, 30 new parking spaces were created from old garages in Glebelands and Wharley Hook. A further 57 parking spaces have been created in Cooks Spinney, Hollyfield and The Readings. The number of new spaces will top 200 later this year with the creation of 44 more spaces in Guilfords and Quarry Spring.

A further 35 spaces will be created in Goldsmiths with spaces for commercial vehicles and EV charging. More spaces are also due to be created in Joyners Field and Tilbury Mead.
The council is now considering the next phase of the open parking programme with proposals including sites in Rundells, Rushes Mead and Milwards. The council is also preparing planning applications to create official parking on landscape areas across the town that are currently being used as unofficial parking areas.
Councillor David Carter, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:
“We are creating hundreds of new parking spaces in our housing estates by removing old garages and hardstandings as part of our mission to renew our neighbourhoods. Our programme is not only creating much-needed extra spaces for car owners but helping to alleviate congestion within our estates making it safer for all. This is just the start of our programme to create more residential parking across the town.”
This is great news , live in the rundells and its so hard to park if you return home after 6pm !
Yeah good news . Can you look into the hoo old harlow as that has serious parking issues. Thank you
We should use this spaces to build flats
The issue is people with multiple commercial vehicles - one business owner in our estate parks 4-5 of his vans every night. Royal Mail, HTS, BT, Virgin. The council should be converting these areas for use by commercial vehicles, and charge them for the parking.
I live in Vicarage wood it's a nightmare people always park on our green corners ruining them . There are to many cars per household round here . Might be better putting drop curbs for the houses
Waste of time people are parking there vehicles in these new parking spaces and they never move from that space.
There are not enough parking spaces round Hull Grove as there are two or more cars to one household. There are also commercial vans. Plus people parking in disabled parking bays when they don't have a disabled badge!! The verges are made a mess of where they pull up on them to park also dropped kerbs are parked across & to cap it all parking 2 wheels on pavements around most estates which is not only very infuriating but a danger...its so dam selfish of drivers who do this so pushchairs, mobility scooters have to go out into the road!! It seems that everywhere you go people just don't want to walk that little further to park their vehicles, the closest they can get to their bloody front doors seems to be what they are aiming for. UNBELIEVABLY lazy selfish inconsiderate bunch of idiots. Then they wonder why their cars get damaged..... BECAUSE some are so very fed up regarding the parking availability in Harlow
More parking spaces creates more traffic and congestion but inevitable because public transport is poor and the cycling network the town needs isn't there. Free or very low cost good public transport, provision of good cycling routes, secure bike and cargo bike parking and supplying bikes and battery assisted bikes at subsidized rates, installing Park and Ride hubs around the perimeter of the town would actually be cheaper and a better long term low pollution safer easier quicker solution to building more roads like the Eastern Crossing and j7a links.
Hopefully they will install monitored CCTV and add these locations to police patrols. Vehicle crime is a problem in Harlow, with some people doing nothing but roaming around the town thieving from parked vehicles.
