YOURHARLOW catches up with Simon Cousins, Managing Partner and Property Solicitor at HRJ Foreman Laws, to find out how the first year has been for the firm, its successes, and its hopes and plans for the coming year.

Can you remind us why HRJ Foreman Laws Solicitors chose Old Harlow for their new office?

We had already established offices in Hertfordshire. Our conveyancing and commercial property teams had been advising residential property owners, commercial property owners, and commercial tenants in Essex for a while. We wanted to be closer to our clients in the area. We also recognised that there are lots of people seeking our specialist legal advice for our other commercial, business, and personal legal matters. 

How have you found the local community and its response to your law firm?

We have received a warm welcome, and we have loved meeting lots of new business owners, estate agents, and property developers in the area. We are excited to continue to meet more community groups and businesses in the future.

What’s been your greatest success in the last year?

We’ve recruited some new team members and expanded the service portfolio from property law to also include company and commercial law. Our solicitors have been enjoying the local networking events and helping to increase awareness of who we are and what legal services we provide.

We were also honoured to be invited to sponsor the 2FiveO Family Garden at the Harlow Cricket Club, which marked its 250th birthday this year.

What do you think sets your law firm apart from others in the area?

We are not your traditional ‘High Street” firm.  We are boutique in size, and we have a reputation for ‘punching above our weight’ in terms of both our clients and the breadth and depth of the work we do for them. We are very active in property – both commercial and residential work. This makes us the perfect partner for property developers who require both commercial and residential conveyancing services. Our residential conveyancing team can support the onward sale of properties and are also on hand for Essex residents who are buying or selling a property. 

What are your future goals for your practice in this community?

Longer term, we will extend the number of legal experts based in our Old Harlow office, although currently any clients in Harlow can easily access our expertise in company and commercial law, equine law, family law, insolvency law, litigation, wills, trusts, and probate.
