Conservative candidate at General Election Hannah Ellis slams Labour over decision to review new hospital for Harlow

Health / Mon 29th Jul 2024 at 04:45pm

THE Conservative candidate at the General Election held a few weeks ago has slammed the Chancellor’s decision to review plans for new hospitals including one for Harlow.

Hannah Ellis said: “The Chancellor’s statement today was a disaster for Harlow and the villages.

Labour have only been in Government three weeks and they have already cancelled our town centre funding, cut winter fuel payments for our pensioners and announced a review of our new hospital.

During the General Election, our new Labour MP told us “Labour will just build it. No gimmicks, no tricks, just the new hospital Harlow needs.” Now, they’re trying to sell us the biggest trick going.

The Office for Budget Responsibility audited our public finances shortly before the General Election. If anything has come as a surprise to them then they didn’t bother to read it.

Since Labour were last in Government, Conservatives have more than halved the deficit, halved unemployment and despite a pandemic and global energy crisis, halved inflation too.

“Politics is about choices. As politicians, we should own those choices. This is nothing more  a shameless attempt by Labour to lay the ground for taxes rises that they promised they wouldn’t do. I will continue to fight them every step of the way.”

The last government had 5 years to start building and did nothing. It’s not even reached planning stage. Out of the 40 promised by Boris in 2019, only 1 has been built with 6 others under construction. Just a big fat lie to get votes.

Would Hannah care to tell people how much progress her MP and her government made on the new hospitals? I’d rather Labour was honest with the public the whole way along the process. It’s better than the pipe dreams that the Tories sold us for years. I think she needs to get a grip and realise that people are fed up with this type of petty politics. Politics is about choices, and less than a month ago Harlow chose Chris Vince over her divisive and hate-filled politics. A failed candidate selling us failed plans while Labour gets on with the job. I know which I prefer.

Chris wasn't even in the chamber today! I guess he will toe the line & not speak out or go against his party. Career first people of Harlow second!

Can YourHarlow validate the claim that Chris Vince wasn't in the chamber today? If he wasn't it would good to understand what his priority is. As for the statement, unions did well out of it, pensioners have been hit and given the 2 child cap is still in place, looks like they don't really like anyone who voted for them

If you can’t afford it, why pay for it? Unless you want Labour to put up taxes to pay for it, but I guess even then they wouldn’t be happy?

When will Cllr Ellis understand that the new hospital, if ever built, will not be in Harlow. As for the £20m, perhaps she could tell me what that money was specifically intended to build in the town centre?

The preventative care and Care Closer to Home health plans in Labour's manifesto are factors in reviewing the overall need for 40+ new hospitals. So are use of the private sector and outsourcing some NHS treatments, not that I condone privatisation. Given a major overhaul of how NHS treatment is delivered is obviously going to impact on hospital bed requirements. Clearly, some hospitals are so clapped out that they need replacing whilst others need lots of repairs. Let's see what the review brings before condemning Labour. It is worth watching the Tony Blair Institute Future of Britain conference section on reimagining health care at https://youtu.be/TFulYKIWkZ0?si=Yih8ACDmu1OjdIlh

Oh Hannah, be honest! I understand the Tories hadn’t even got planning permission for a new hospital site ….. Or approval of any actual plans. It was all promises promises with the last government, with nothing actually happening on this. We want definites, not just pie in the sky promises. Etc etc!

Hannah, I don’t know where you’ve been but the OBR described Jeremy Hunt’s financial figures as ‘beyond a work of fiction’. See article below: https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/jeremy-hunt

The Tories promised a lot but achieved very little…the new hospital kept having the date put further and further back because they could not afford to build it….another promise from Boris the serial liar. Even the OBR are saying they were mislead by the Tory government….give the new government a chance…at least they are being honest about our finances

Cancelling the mythical build outside of Harlow (in Epping district) that was used as an excuse for not rebuilding could be good news. Perhaps now they can get on with building on the current HARLOW or at the old Gsk Pinnacles site.

We need an additional hospital, not a replacement that is going to be very difficult for the most vulnerable to even get to. I hope this will be taken into consideration if and when this ever really is on the table. It's east to point the finger at a new government, but the outgoing one never actually made any steps towards making a new hospital reality. There's so much dishonesty and mud flinging. We deserve better

Hannah do you read your stories from the same book as the boy leader does. A Councillor or MP whose lips are moving are normally telling porkies. None of you can be trusted

Labour were only promising what the Conservatives were promising, i.e. to build the new hospital. Except that what we didn't know before the election, and what we do know now, is that the Tories had been deliberately misleading the OBR about unfunded spending plans.

"Since Labour were last in Government, Conservatives have more than halved the deficit, halved unemployment and despite a pandemic and global energy crisis, halved inflation too." The Conservatives have also tripled the crime rates, tripled knife crime, tripled taxes, cut down on emergercy services funding and tripled immigration numbers. The Conservatives had 14 years in power and absolutely destroyed this country.
